I. PURPOSE: The purpose of this document is to list a limited number of duties typically performed by a person in the classification cited above as well as certain requirements necessary to perform these duties. It is not intended to be a complete list of duties nor requirements, but rather examples by which to select and compensate employees in a fair and reasonable manner.
A. Sweep, mop, scrub, and wax floors; vacuum carpets.
B. Dust, wax, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork.
C. Clean chalk and white boards, trays and erasers.
D. Empty and clean pencil sharpeners, wastebaskets, and trash receptacles (to include disposing of infectious bio hazard waste).
E. Clean restrooms.
F. Wash windows.
G. Move and arrange furniture and equipment; provide assembly, as needed.
H. Prepare multi-purpose room, gymnasium, and football stadiums for special events or meetings.
I. Assist employees in moving cartons and equipment.
J. Provide shipping, receiving and delivery services (e.g. mail), as needed.
K. Maintain locker system and make necessary repairs.
L. Raise/lower flag daily.
M. Operate pressure washer.
N. Replace light bulbs.
O. Replace HVAC filters.
P. Make minor electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs; notify supervisor of major maintenance and repair needs.
Q. Perform minor painting and patching of surfaces.
R. Perform daily maintenance and cleaning operations associated with swimming pool (certificate required).
S. Supervision of student work detail, as required.
T. Availability to work different shifts.
U. Operate a motor vehicle.
V. sprays for insect and diseases (appropriate pesticides)
W. Maintain walkways, common areas, and parking lots.
X. Perform other related essential functions as assigned.
A. Knowledge
1. Modern cleaning methods (i.e. mixing cleaning solutions), materials, and equipment (i.e. gas powered weed eaters, blowers, etc.) used in custodial work.
2. Basic principles related to motor performance, electricity, and water systems
3. Safety techniques and regulations.
4. Basic swimming pool maintenance.
5. Application of pesticides (certificate required)
B. Skills
1. Operate floor vacuums, buffers, shampoo machines effectively.
2. Drive light trucks, tractors, and power-driven maintenance and grounds equipment (possession of valid California
Drivers License).
3. Use power tools (i.e. drills, saws).
4. Work cooperatively with other employees and students.
5. Read and understand the English language.
A. Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
B. See and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
C. Hear and understand speech with or without hearing aids.
D. Speak so that others may understand at normal levels.
E. Operate a motor vehicle.
F. Operate/use basic hand and power tools, cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment/machinery.
G. Sit, bend over, crawl, climb, grasp, reach overhead, twist, stoop, crouch, kneel, balance, push, pull, and move, lift and/or carry 0 - 60 pounds to various height.
Employees in this position will be required to work indoors in a maintenance/workshop/classroom environment; work with and around standard hand, power, cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment/machinery; contact with potentially hazardous materials (i.e. aerosol sprays, chemicals): travel by motor vehicle; work outdoors in varying degrees of temperatures; and come in direct contact with MUHSD staff and the public.
