I. PURPOSE: The purpose of this document is to list a limited number of duties typically
performed by a person in the classification cited above as well as certain requirements necessary
to perform these duties. It is not intended to be a complete list of duties nor requirements, but
rather examples by which to select and compensate employees in a fair and reasonable manner.
A. Assists and ensures safety in the preparation and cooking of food for school site, other school programs, and caterings.
B. Accepts and processes lunch applications.
C. Serves meals and ala carte food items.
D. Washes and ensures safety of dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and equipment or supplies.
E. Cleans kitchen and related equipment. (i.e. inside ovens, kitchen/walk-in wall and freezers)
F. Accepts and ensures security of all coming of money makes change and accounts for receipts.
G. Supervises and approves daily time sheets for student help and special needs student in cafeteria class.
H. Monthly product inventory.
I. Weekly ordering of food and/or supplies.
J. Assists in putting large quantities of weekly inventory on shelves or freezers
K. Daily break down and clean up of large quantities of boxes to be put into trash dumpsters and recycling bins.
L. Operates point of sale cashier computer terminal.
M. Assists supervisor or assistant supervisor in counting of lunch money.
N. Performs other essential functions as assigned.

4. Weights and measures.
5. Safety knowledge.
6. Basic use of general office equipment.
B. Skills
1. Operates industrial kitchen equipment.
2. Prepares food quickly and hygienically.
3. Makes change accurately.
4. Operation of computerized cash register.
5. Ability to follow directions.
6. Ability to recognize harmful confrontation between students.
7. Capacity to exercise patience with students, staff, parents, and vendors/community members.
8. Capability to work cooperatively and respectfully with others (i.e. students, staff
and others).
9. Capability of working under pressure/time limits.
A. Stand for prolonged periods of time.
B. See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids.
C. Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without hearing aids.
D. Speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone.
E. Enter data into a computer terminal/typewriter, use standard office equipment and dial a telephone.
F. Stand, walk, bend over, stoop, grasp, reach overhead, push, pull and move, lift and/or carry
0-65 pounds to just above head level.
G. Push, pull, and move more than 100 pound lunch carts.
Employees in this position will be required to work indoors in a school kitchen and/or cafeteria
environment. Exposure to heat, steam and extremely cold temperatures (walk-in freezer) for
extended periods of time are typical. Employee comes in direct contact with students,
teachers/staff and public.
